Oussouye – Pte St Georges – Egueye – Eloubaline
Ref : E07
Description:
A 4-day journey on foot and by pirogue, with some vehicle and kayak segments, to discover the Casamance River, traditional villages, the atmosphere of the mangroves, and to learn about Diola traditions.
Day 1: Oussouye – Edioungou – approx. 4 hours of walking
A full day of hiking to explore the villages of Oussouye and Eyun.
In the morning, we set out to visit the villages that form the Kingdom of Bubedium. We discover a cashew nut processing unit, fetish sites, and sometimes craft workshops. Lunch in Oussouye.
In the afternoon, we cross the large rice fields of Oussouye to enter the palm grove and reach the village of Siganar, which we visit (numerous fetishes and palaver trees). Return via the village of Karounat. Dinner and overnight stay along the bolong in Edioungou.
If possible during the day, a meeting with the King of Oussouye may be arranged.
Day 2: Edioungou – Mlomp – Pointe St. Georges – approx. 3 hours walking – 45 min pirogue
After a short vehicle transfer, we enter the bush and follow the trails to the village of Mlomp, where we visit the multi-storey huts and the museum. Lunch.
In the afternoon, we reach a point along the bolong to board a pirogue that will take us to Pointe St. Georges after about 45 minutes of navigation—perhaps accompanied by dolphins.
Check-in at the camp and visit of the village. Dinner and overnight stay on the banks of the Casamance River in a lodge-style camp.
Note: Since 2024, the village of Pointe St. Georges has instituted a 2,000 FCFA per person fee to access the manatee observation tower. It is used to maintain the tower. If no manatees are present, access is free. As this fee is variable, it remains at your expense.
Day 3: Pointe St. Georges – Mlomp – Oussouye – Egueye – approx. 5 hours of walking
We head to Kanoufa by vehicle to climb the platform built atop a kapok tree, 25 m high, offering panoramic views over the canopy, the bush, and the river.
We then begin a hike crossing straw fields, mangrove, and rice paddies, with passages over traditional bridges, to reach Mlomp.
Short transfer to Oussouye by car (20 min). Lunch.
In the afternoon, we cross rice fields, palm groves, and several villages to reach the island of Egueye. Dinner and overnight stay at the Egueye ecolodge.
Important:
Advance booking is required for the Kanoufa platform. Access is via cable ladders and a harness similar to a treetop adventure course. A supplement of 3,000 FCFA per person is to be paid on site.
Day 4: Egueye – Kayak – Oussouye – approx. 2h30 kayak – approx. 2h pirogue
In the morning, we take a kayak trip to discover the mangrove and its ecosystem (mangrove reforestation, many seabirds). Lunch.
Vehicle transfer to Edioungou (25 min) to board a pirogue that will take us to the island of Eloubaline through gallery forests of mangroves.
Visit of the village and its impluvium houses before returning to our agency.
