Description:
A superb 4-day trek to discover the Casamance River, its islands, authentic villages, and to enjoy unforgettable encounters.

 

Day 1: Oussouye – Egueye –  Approximately 4 h 30 min of walking

In the morning, we visit the six villages that form the Kingdom of Oussouye, united by their traditions and geographical location (visit of fetishes, cashew nut processing units, artisans).

Lunch in Oussouye.

In the afternoon, short vehicle transfer to reach the trail, through palm groves and forest, leading to the village of Diantène and then to the island of Egueye.

Dinner and overnight stay in Egueye.

Day 2: Egueye – Karabane – Niumun – Approximately 2 hours by pirogue – approx. 2 hours of walking

In the morning, departure by pirogue to reach the starting point of the trail on the island of Karabane.

Hike of approximately 8 km to reach the village. Visit of the colonial remains and lunch on site.

In the afternoon, we travel up the Casamance River by pirogue to reach the island of Niumun. Short walk through the village and its different neighborhoods.

Dinner and overnight stay in Niumun.

Day 3: Niumun – Itou – Aher – Pointe Saint-Georges Approximately 4 hours of walking

Departure on foot from Niumun and crossing to set foot on the island of Itou.

We then hike toward the village of Aher. Picnic lunch along the way.

At the end of the day, river crossing by pirogue to spend the night at Pointe Saint-Georges.

Day 4: Pointe Saint-Georges – Kanoufa – Mlomp – Oussouye – Approximately 4 h 30 min of walking

Short vehicle transfer to the Kanoufa platform.

Climb to the top of the kapok tree (“fromager”), 25 meters high, to enjoy a 360° panoramic view over the river, the bush, and the forest canopy.

We then continue along trails through the savannah and rice fields to reach the mangrove (crossing traditional bridges) before arriving in Mlomp.

Lunch followed by a visit to the museum and the traditional two-story houses.

We then follow a trail through the bush, lined with cashew trees, leading back to Oussouye.

End of the program.

Highlights : the multi-storey traditional huts of Mlomp, the view from the Kanoufa platform, the hikes around Niumun and Aher, the grilled oysters of Egueye
