Pte St Georges – Karabane – Egueye – Eloubaline

Ref : D11

Description: Three days of mountain biking, pirogue excursions, trekking, and kayaking—designed to explore the most beautiful sites in the region. This authentic experience blends cultural richness, Diola traditions, and stunning natural landscapes.

Day 1 – OUSSOUYE – ELOUBALINE – MLOMP – POINTE SAINTE GEORGES – Aprox. 17 km MTB – aprox. 2 h 15 min en piragua
We Start with a short mountain bike ride from Oussouye, winding through local villages. From there, we board a traditional pirogue and gently cruise through the mangroves for about 45 minutes to reach Eloubaline Island. This island is known for its impluvium houses—ingenious circular homes with a central open roof designed to collect rainwater. After exploring the village, we return to Edioungou by pirogue and enjoy a local lunch.

In the afternoon, we cycle along forest trails to Mlomp, where we visit its museum and multi-storey mud houses—rare architectural gems . We then leave the bikes behind and continue by pirogue to Pointe Sainte Georges, gliding through the mangrove waterways for another 45 minutes. Along the way, we may be lucky enough to spot dolphins or manatees, depending on the season. Dinner and overnight stay at(guesthouse) on the peaceful banks of the Casamance River.

Note: Since March 2024, the village of Pointe Sainte Georges has implemented a 2,000 FCFA per person fee for manatee viewing, used to maintain the observation tower. If no manatees are present, no fee is charged. This fee is optional and at your own expense.

Day  2: POINTE SAINTE GEORGES – KANOUFA – ELINKINE – KARABANE – EGUEYE – aprox. 3 h Hiking – 12 km MTB – aprox. 1 h en pirogue

After breakfast, we transfer by vehicle to the Kanoufa forest, where we climb up to a platform 25 meters high, built into a giant kapok tree. From this spectacular perch, we enjoy panoramic views of the canopy, river, and savanna below.

We then set off on a 3-hour trek, crossing savannahs, rice paddies, and saltwater arms via traditional footbridges, eventually reaching Mlomp. From there, we hop back on our mountain bikes for a scenic 12 km ride to  Elinkine, where we break for lunch.

In the afternoon, we travel by pirogue to the island of Karabane, where colonial remnants like a Breton church and cemetery still remain. Our journey continues by pirogue to the island of Egueye, where we spend the night at a welcoming eco-lodge surrounded by water and tranquility.

Note: Reservations are required for the Kanoufa canopy platform. Access involves a tree-climbing-style ladder with a safety harness and cable system.

Day 3: EGUEYE – OUSSOUYE – Aprox. 2 h 30 en kayak – 18 km MTB
In the morning, we set out on a kayak excursion to discover the mangrove ecosystem—home to marine birds and mangrove reforestation zones. It’s a peaceful and immersive way to connect with nature. We return to the eco-lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, we head back to Oussouye by mountain bike, following scenic trails through palm groves or the protected Oukout forest, closing our journey through the heart of rural Casamance.
