Description:
A 4-day journey on foot and by pirogue, with some vehicle and kayak segments, to discover the Casamance River, traditional villages, the atmosphere of the mangroves, and to learn about Diola traditions.
DAY 1: OUSSOUYE – ELOUBALINE – EDIOUNGOU – approximately 2 hours of walking – approximately 1 h 30 hours of Pirogue
In the morning, we set off to visit the villages that make up the Kingdom of Bubedium. We visit a cashew nut processing unit, traditional sacred sites and, when possible, local artisans. Lunch in Edioungou .
In the afternoon, we board a motor pirogue to Eloubaline Island, travelling through mangrove forests forming natural tunnels. Visit of the village and its traditional impluvium houses before returning to Edioungou where we spend the night .
Note : If possible, we will have the opportunity to meet and talk with the King of Oussouye during the day.
DAY 2 : EDIOUNGOU – MLOMP – POINTE SAINT-GEORGES – approximately 3 hours of walking – 45 minutes by pirogue
In the morning, a short vehicle transfer takes us to the starting point of the trail. We then enter the bush and follow trails leading to the village of Mlomp, where we visit the traditional two-storey houses and the museum. Lunch.
In the afternoon, we reach a point on the banks of the bolong where we board a pirogue to Pointe Saint-Georges, after approximately 45 minutes of navigation. With a little luck, dolphins may be present and accompany us along the way.
Arrival at the camp and visit of the village. Depending on the season and conditions, it may also be possible to observe manatees. Dinner and overnight stay in a camp/lodge on the banks of the Casamance River.
Note : Since 2024, the village of Pointe Saint-Georges has introduced a fee of 2,000 CFA francs per person to access the manatee observation platform. This fee is used to maintain the platform. If no manatees are present, access is free. As this fee depends on the conditions on the day, it remains at your expense.
DAY 3: POINTE SAINT-GEORGES – MLOMP – OUSSOUYE – EGUEYE – approximately 5 hours of hiking
In the morning, we travel by vehicle to Kanoufa, where we climb onto a platform located 25 metres above the ground, in the canopy of a large kapok tree. From there, we enjoy views over the forest canopy, the surrounding bush and the river.
We then set off on a hike through grassland, mangroves and rice fields, crossing traditional bridges along the way, before reaching Mlomp. Short 20-minute vehicle transfer to Oussouye. Lunch.
In the afternoon, we cross rice fields, palm groves and several villages before reaching Egueye Island. Dinner and overnight stay at the Egueye ecolodge.
Important : Advance reservation is mandatory for the Kanoufa platform. Access is via a cable ladder and a climbing-style safety harness.
DAY 4: EGUEYE – SIGANAR – OUSSOUYE – approximately 2 hours 30 minutes by kayak – approximately 2 hours hiking
In the morning, kayak excursion to discover the mangroves and their ecosystem, including mangrove reforestation areas and the many marine birds that inhabit the area. Lunch.
In the afternoon, we goback by vehicule and start a trekking entering the palm groves and reaching the village of Siganar, which we visit. The village is home to numerous traditional sacred sites and palaver trees. We return via the village of Karounat and the vast rice d=field of Oussouye
End of the programme.
